Sheriff Louis Falco III

Sheriff of Rockland County, New York since January 2012, Sheriff Louis Falco III leads the mission to create a safe environment in which Rockland County citizens can live, work and pursue a better quality of life. During his term, Sheriff Falco has instituted a state-of-the-art communications center to ensure effective communications across county agencies, first responders and the general public and has invested in the Bureau of Crime Investigation making it a valued high-technology resource center. He did this while raising the efficiency of the Sheriff’s Office to save the county $10 million.

He has been named Chair of Zone 4 (Rockland, Orange and Sullivan Counties) Counter Terrorism by New York State Homeland Security, giving him responsibility for routing intelligence data from federal, state and local sources to law enforcement and intelligence centers within the zone.

In addition to his responsibilities, which include police patrol; crime Investigation; arson, bomb, mounted and marine units; rescue and counter-terrorism; white collar crime, mobile field force, and oversight of the Rockland County Correctional Facility. Sheriff Falco supervises community programs Child C.A.R.E. (photo database for amber alerts), MADD, Silver Alert and Sex Offender Registry. He has also instituted programs such as operation medicine cabinet for safe disposal of prescription drugs, TRIAD senior safety education, and storm assistance detail for United Hospice of Rockland and Rockland’s family shelter, Center for Safety and Change.

As a participant of the Leadership Rockland program, Sheriff Falco had the opportunity to further examine the issues facing the county in the business, government, nonprofit and private sectors. He now co-leads the program’s Law Enforcement Day.

Sheriff Falco has received many awards from organizations such as the Elks Law Enforcement Committee and Rockland County PBA. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Columbia Lawyers’ Association. He has also been honored as Outstanding Italian American by the Rockland County Columbus Association, International Grand Marshall for the Dominican Festival of Rockland and Parade of Unity Marshall for Haitian community association.

Sheriff Falco is an honorary member of the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America and of the Rockland County Fire Chiefs Association and the Hillcrest Fire Department. The Sheriff also serves on the Board of Big Brothers, Big Sisters. He volunteers his time during the holiday seasons to personally deliver meals for Meals on Wheels and he participates in fund-raising events for Rockland’s food pantry, People to People.

Past president of the NYS Deputies Association and Rockland County Sheriff Deputies Association, he now serves on the Executive Board of the Rockland County Shields, MADD, Rockland Community College and Saint Thomas Aquinas College Criminal Justice advisory board.

A lifelong resident of Rockland County, Sheriff Falco has been with the Rockland County Sheriff’s office for 37 years. Starting as a police dispatcher he rose through the ranks to become Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Chief of Police. He holds an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice and a BS in Police Science. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, VA and a graduate of the Mid-Atlantic Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar at Princeton University.
